Bright 4 Peaks 2023 Day 1 Update - Mt Buffalo

After two wet years, our 4 Peaks athletes have experienced the Big Walk up Mt Buffalo in perfect conditions. Nearly 400 competitors reached the Buffalo Chalet in bright sunshine and could enjoy the views from the famous lookouts.

In the women's class, Elly Jackson was first to the summit in 77:36mins followed closely by Simon Brick in 79:52mins and local Tori Thomas in 81:10mins. Milla Key took a few mins off her 2022 time to win the youth class in 87:06mins.

The men's class had a stacked field bolstered by some single day athletes looking to give it all and not have to save their legs for the following 3 days. Brodie Nankervis lead the field through the first steep 3km, but was dropped by Leo Peterson and La Sportiva's Matt Crehan when the gradient eased off a bit. Leo clawed a small gap of 17 seconds by the finish to take first place in 63:35mins ahead of Matt's 63:42. Brodie was 3rd place in 64:06. Traralgon Harrier Dempsey Podmore won the youth class in 82:08- a slick time for the 13yo.
